Props to ZTE, my Max xl was thrown at a wall, it literally put a hole in the wall and the phone doesn't have even a scratch. not even a scuff mark, so thanks ZTE for making one tough phone. (Posted on 6/21/2018)
Ok first off I paid nothing for my phone, it was free. Cracked the first one and paid literally $20.13 for a brand new one thru the insurance company. Both phones worked perfectly fine, YouTube doesn't freeze, battery won't die for nothing, upgraded storage to 64GB so the phone isn't lagging, mine doesn't even shut off on it's on. It's even louder than anyone else's ZTE Max XL, I came from cricket and switched and I'm not regretting it at all! This was my dream phone and it's definitely treating me well! Thumbs up ZTE, you did one helluva job here! (Posted on 5/9/2018)
The screen is stubborn, camera won't focus, takes forever to charge and discharges quickly, does not have an area in settings to set up 128GB SD card. I've been complaining to Boost since day 1 with no satisfaction , boost could care less. I've never hated a phone before, but I feel really screwed over. (Posted on 5/2/2018)
Over 23 years of cell service, I have always had Motorola, Samsung, the LG smartphone but when my last LG went whack after 18 months and my budget forced me to look at other brands (and I had always avoided "off", lesser-popular manufacturers) , I "settled" on the ZTE MAXX XL mostly because I really liked the screen size and camera.
I've had the MAXX for 7+ months now and excepting the limited built-in memory which prevents me from downloading as many of my games as I would like, have been VERY satisfied. It's survived regular, several hours a day of use along with multiple drops and mishaps. But this evening, my MAXX truly showed me that it's in for the long haul.
Here's my experience:
OMG! Major props to the ZTE MAXX phone I have!
I just did the obligatory winter fall on the back patio and went down on my ass, splayed everywhere in 2-4 inches of iceberg water. It was a good 2 minutes while I gathered MYSELF, got up, stepped inside the door and started emptying my soaked jackpot pockets. Only then did I realize that my phone had been in my hand when I went down.
I looked outside on TOP of the wet slush to no avail. Suddenly I see my phone UNDERNEATH no less than 2.5 inches of freezing water. I grabbed it, wrenches the back off, grabbed a shirt from Tony's floor and left it wrapped up while I assessed my injuries (a painfully spasmed back, bruised and contused hand etc.), assuming it was likely a lost cause.
Shock! When I finally got to it, not only is the phone perfectly fine, it didn't even shut off or reset. AND, the speaker and screen are also perfectly intact and clear.
I must say, the grief and pain over my personal injuries incurred in the fall (on top of the painful disabilities I already live with) we're tempered greatly by the fact that I wasn't also having to deal with a broken phone and worries about how to replace it. Especially when I imagine if I'd have been injured worse and had to call 911 or someone else because I am here alone.
Thank you for a GREAT, RELIABLE product at a GREAT price. You've found a lifer in me!
I switched to this phone from a Samsung Metro Pcs sales rep really made it sound like a great phone and I wish I would have never listened to him because it was the worst mistake ever. I would have switched it for another phone but was told if I did that I would lose my number so here I am about 5 months later and I still absolutely hate this phone. The sound quality is verrrry poor while playing on aux, bluetooth, or simply talking on the loud speaker you can barely hear even with volume turned up all the way. It does show a good picture however it does NOT take good pictures at all, it seems like the phone has a built in shade if you don't hold it right you will have a dark glare over your picture. It gets really hot and freezes to the point you have to restart the phone. And omg the ring tone options are just ridiculous, camera on this thing was compared to Iphone I never had an Iphone but I am sure their camera quality is nothing like ZTE. One last complaint is the inability to mirror the phone to the t.v using the cable THIS IS NOT AN OPTION ON ZTE EVEN THOUGH THE CORD FITS... Bottom line this is a horrible phone and please please don't waste your time or money on it. I only picked 1 star because I had to, if there were a 0 that would be my choice for this phone. I got this phone from Boost Mobile when I switched from Cricket. I had an Alcatel with Cricket and I've had a Samsung with Cricket. I dropped those phones several times. The screens were all cracked up but they still worked excellent. I like the ZTE Max XL but ever since I've had this phone there has been nothing but problems. The phone has just shut off on me twice and will not turn back on. It gets hot and the colors on the phone go out. This is the first phone that I've had that I have not dropped but cuts off, gets hot, and the color goes out. (Posted on 2/3/2018)
Coming from a cracked screen Moto E, this was a huge upgrade. The screen is larger than you'll think it will be...at least it was for me. It's almost TOO big to use as a phone lol. If you want an inexpensive device to serve as a cell, small tablet, music player, etc., this is an incredible deal. Yes, I too have the problem with viewing youtube videos in HD. Oh well. For $85, it understandable that it's not going to be perfect. The finger print reader for access is a nice touch. The camera is not bad. Better than my last phone. Battery life is decent. I can make it through an entire day with either wifi or cellular data on all the time. Could make it two days if I had to. It also features the latest USB-C charger connection, which means it doesn't matter which way you plug the charger in. Nice. Latest version of Android is a good thing as well. I immediately bought a rugged case w a built-in screen protector from Amazon for like 10 bucks...love it. Overall, this has been an awesome purchase from a bang-for-your-buck perspective. I would definitely recommend it. (Posted on 12/13/2017)
